Mayan Elder Tata Pedro Cruz shares teachings this Saturday evening in Encinitas, San Diego, CA.

Please join us for this sacred, unique opportunity to spend an evening with one of the last living Tzutujil Mayan Elders, Tata Pedro Cruz, visiting from his home town of Lago Atitlan, Guatemala. Tata Pedro Cruz is a revolutionary of our times, with a life story steeped in truth, challenge, suffering, and ultimately peace, love, and a reconnection to our Mother Earth and Mayan Spirituality. He has pilgrimaged over 800 miles through Central America spreading the knowledge of his Mayan ancestors to many indigenous villages whose culture was being lost. His powerful testament that peace is the way was delivered from his personal struggles through war, early abandonment from his mother and other universal struggles we all face by virtue of being human.

Come share this special evening with us as he speaks of the Sacred Tzolkin Mayan Calendar, sheds light of the prophecies of our current time and what 2012 means, and leads us through a Sacred Mayan fire ceremony honoring the cosmic cycles. Tata Pedro emanates a presence of pure love, joy, and soul wisdom. He invites us all to know that the world is not going to end in 2012, in fact we are shifting into a space of LOVE, peace, and unity. With his message, Tata Pedro encourages all that "We first must come together in our communities, and then we can come together in the world."

Artwork will also be for sale by Producer Whitney Kear, inspired by the documentary film shoots and travels to Guatemala, which benefit the documentary film for Outside The Box Media Arts. Outside the Box Media Arts mission is to serve as a messenger between unheard communities around the world and to unite communities through  film, photography, and multimedia.

$20.00 is requested for this special event. $20 will go toward Tata Pedro Cruz and his family, We are also accepting donations for his travel and expenses while he is here in San Diego to help us with the cost.

We are also currently in need of helping to raise funds for the translations for the documentary which we are doing on the life of Tata pedro. We are graciously receiving any further donations for this effort to supplement our online fundraising project. Our current goal is $3,000 needed for the translations of the many hours of footage we are working with.  We are so close to completing this film, the time for this message is now, and really appreciate any support to help us get one step closer to the completion.  If you wish to make a tax deductible donation you may do so through the Media Arts Center San Diego which 8% of the donation will go toward supporting Latino artists in our project and the rest will go toward helping us complete the film.

Deep Thanks and we look forward to enjoying this evening with you!

Below is short Biography on Tata Pedro Cruz

Tata Pedro Cruz who's maya name is k'u'x'ya meaning heart of the lake, is one of the last living Tzutujil Mayan elders of Lago Atitlan Guatemala.  He is a member of the Council of Mayan Elders of Guatemala and 2005 World Peace Ambassador. He has been working to bring together surrounding Maya from neighboring villages to hold ceremony with one another.  He started holding a gathering of elders and young Maya from all over Guatemala and  traveling to Tikal where he has been holding ceremonies in Tikal at the main Jaguar courtyard for the December 21 winter solstice for the past 6 years and will continue to do so until December 21 2012.  Tata Pedro's main philosophy is in order for us to come together as a world we must first come together in our own communities.  He has been leading ceremonies to unite varying Maya lineages, along with  allowing westerners to be a part of some of the Maya ceremonies bringing together a unity of all races, continents and creeds.  He is a day keeper of the Tzutujil Mayan Calendar which is a branch of the Quiche Maya.  He has been leading workshops to untie the Maya within his communities and teaching youth around the world about the wisdom of the elders and the Mayan ancestor knowledge.  Through all of his experiences throughout life, his main phrase is something that can resonate with all of us.  "No matter what everything always with love."

To learn more about Tata Pedro you can view him in a small clip below on the film we have been making on his life for the past 2 1/2 years.  It is a non-profit documentary with the goal of giving back into the communities that we have been working with over the years.  We are very grateful to be able to work with Tata Pedro, and our friends from around Guatemala.

Letter from Chichicastenango Guatemala- Rebuilding after the storm

It has now been over a month since Hurricane Agatha touched down in Guatemala.  We have been organizing efforts to send clothes and funds to our friends who we have been doing a documentary with for the past 2.5 years.  They recently wrote us a letter updating us on the progress that is going on.  Many of the Mayan communities were affected by the storm, and have been having difficulties finding basic necessities like food and clean drinking water.  We are including direct place you can send your donations to help support the communities and our friends down in Guatemala who were affected.  We have been working with various Mayan communities throughout Guatemala, and our friends from Chichi have reached out to us to ask you for your kind support.  Anything you can give, please see the letter and info below.  Thank you so much.

Letter from Juan Leon Cortez below

Thank you friend...we enormously thank you for the help you have provided. The people of the Maya Kiche en chichicastenango are now making huge efforts to move forward. We now have our legal status (legal representation and state tax number) as an association for the benefit of our comunity.  This is a dificult time for all of the areas of Guatemala. We have put much energy into our community of Chichi...unfortunately, there are places that were totally destroyed by the huricane, we include more photos in this email. Also, we want to manifest support for our relatives who suffered great losses and severe consequences.  Regretably, the most humble familes, whom live in adobe houses suffered the greatest.
